EB-4 Categories
- Religious Workers:
- Ministers of Religion: Individuals who are clergy or ministers within their religious denomination.
- Professional Religious Workers: Individuals working in a professional capacity within a religious vocation or occupation (requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Religious Workers: Individuals working in a religious vocation or occupation for a religious organization or its nonprofit affiliate.
- Employees and Former Employees of the U.S. Government Abroad: Foreign nationals who have worked for the U.S. Government abroad and meet specific criteria.
Steps to Apply
Form I-360 Filing
Your employer or religious organization must file Form I-360, Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant, with the USCIS Regional Service Center that has jurisdiction over your employment location.
Additional Documentation
Along with Form I-360, you must provide supporting documents relevant to your specific category:
- For Religious Workers:
- Proof that the religious organization is a nonprofit entity.
- A letter from an official of the religious organization in the U.S. confirming:
- Your membership in the denomination for at least two years.
- Your two years of experience in your vocation or occupation.
- Details about your specific vocation or occupation.
- Information on how you will be compensated and confirmation that you do not intend to supplement your income with a second job or rely on charity.
- For Employees and Former Employees of the U.S. Government Abroad:
- Documentation of employment with the U.S. Government abroad.
- Evidence of fulfilling specific eligibility requirements for this category.

- Information on your salary and assurance that you will not depend on charity or a second job.
- Evidence of Experience: Documentation of your work experience, education (for professional religious workers), and your role within the organization.

- Proof of Employment: Provide evidence of your employment and adherence to specific eligibility requirements.
